According to the UN, the world has now entered an era of ‘global water bankruptcy’. This is a worrying development and with billions already struggling to access clean water and meet their needs, it highlights that the water crisis is only worsening for us all.

In Thailand, climate change, the growing data center boom and tourism are leading to droughts, floods, contamination of water and pollution. For the Karen, clean water continues to be difficult to access and manage.

On World Water Day, KHT reiterates its commitment to supporting the Karen and ensuring they are not denied this basic and vital human right. Water is life and our water systems are a simple, effective and inexpensive way to provide provide for communities for many years.

KHT’s Water Systems mean that Karen families have access to drinking water and water for other uses throughout the year. This means that adults and children miss significantly less days of work or school due to sickness and water borne diseases and diarrhoea are eliminated.

Our water systems are gravity fed, which means they don’t require expensive maintenance and can last for over 15 years. The villages we work with also set up Water Committees to manage any maintenance and ensure that water is a community preoccupation and priority.

On this day, help us reach more Karen communities and ensure water isn’t denied to those already facing vulnerability and marginalisation.
